No matter how hard a person tries to avoid getting wrinkles, everyone is bound to get a wrinkle here or there. There are many different causes of wrinkles. Some causes are unavoidable while other causes can be avoided.
The main cause of wrinkles is the sun. Sun exposure can result in pre-mature aging of the skin, causing wrinkles to form. The sun’s ultraviolet rays damage the collagen in your skin which then causes the skin to produce an excessive amount of elastin.
The collagen fibers are broken apart and then mended together with an enzyme called metalloproteinase, which produces more collagen to grow, When this breaking down and building back up of collagen happens, the skin develops wrinkles.
Avoiding sun exposure and using sunscreen is an excellent way to help reduce the possibility of getting wrinkles. Most women want a tan, but do not realize that they are actually doing damage to their skin and will be paying for it later in life. Always use sunscreen when you are going to be outside for an extended period of time. Even if it is not warm out or is overcast, the sun’s rays will still penetrate into your skin.
Another cause of wrinkles is normal aging. As you age, your skin looses it’s elasticity. This is something that happens to everyone. Also as you age your skin is less likely to heal and it is harder to maintain moisture.
Both of those factors lead to wrinkles developing on the skin. As you get older, make sure that you put lotion on your face and maintain a healthy diet to help reduce the amount of wrinkles you may get.
Smoking is also a considerable cause of wrinkles. Healthy skin can re-grow with no problems but when a person smokes, it inhabits the production of collagen in the skin. The lack of new collagen produces wrinkles on the face. This could be a big influence for people to stop smoking. By not smoking, you can lessen the amount of wrinkles you will get.
Your facial expressions also cause wrinkles to appear. Smiling, frowning and squinting can cause wrinkles to be more prominent. Frown lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows) and crows feet (wrinkles by the corner of the eyes) are thought to be caused by facial expressions and the muscles in the face contracting.
There is really no way you can prevent this from happening unless you want to walk around your whole life with no expression on your face.
As you can see there are quite a few things that cause wrinkles to form. Some wrinkles are a part of life and will come with age no matter what. If you want to try to prevent a lot of wrinkles though, stay out of the sun, use sunscreen and keep your skin moist and nourished and you will have the best chance at having very few wrinkles.
